PP-T82 : Peripheral neuropathy among diabetic patients with foot pain

Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was evaluate of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) among diabetic patients (DM) with foot pain. Methods This study included 28~77 years old, 50 (22 male, 28 female) diabetic patients visited diabetes clinic last one year. The DPN was diagnosed by questionnaire and by foot examination using “Milgamma PNPDiagnose- Set” (monofilament, tip-therm, tuning fork, neurotips and cotton wool). Results By questionnaire 29 (58%) of DM patients was with foot pain, 5 (10%) was with past history of foot ulcer and 7 (14%) with intermitted claudication. By foot examination changes of skin color, dry skin, nail disease, callus, leathery skin, fissure, foot infection, foot ulceration and amputation were 4 (8%), 41 (82%), 16 (32%), 32(64%), 29 (58%), 9 (18%), 4 (8%), 7 (14%), and 1 (2%). DM patients with abnormal vibration sensation was 17 (34%), tactile sensation was 29 (58%), thermal sensation was 30 (60%), pain sensation was 32 (64%) (painless 24 /48% and painful 8/16%), abnormal monofilament test was 16 (32%) and absent achilles reflex was 40 (80%). DM patients with no DPN was 3 (6%), with mild DPN was 24 (48%), with moderate DPN was 18(36%) and with severe DPN was 5 (10%). Conclusion Among diabetic patients with foot pain DPN was 47 (94%) or high.
