이 연구는 반려동물 항공 여행에 대한 상반된 시선의 선행연구를 고찰하고 관련 규정을 살펴 시사점을 모색하는 데 연구의 목적을 둔다. 연구 범위는 위탁운송을 제외한 반려동물의 항공 여행이다. 항공 여행을 하는 반려동물에 대한 기존의 한 가지 시선은 반려동물을 물건으로 여기는 것이다. 다른 하나는 반려동물을 유아 승객으로 여기는 것이다. 본 연구자는, 구입과 판매와 소유를 할 수는 있으나 물건은 아니고, 반려자로 여겨 가족처럼 지낼 수는 있으나, 인간과 다른 생명체인 반려동물을 제3의 존재로 인식할 것을 주장했다. 반려동물은 기존에 있던 항공법, 항공사 규정, 승객의 인식으로는 담을 수 없는 존재이므로, 반려동물과 반려동물 동반 승객에 관한 관련 법과 항공사 규정의 수정이 필요함을 시사했다.
The purpose of this study is to review previous studies with conflicting views on companion animals air travel and to explore implications by examining related regulations. The scope of the study is air travel of companion animals excluding consignment transportation. One existing view of companion animals traveling by air is to regard companion animals as objects. The other is to consider companion animals as infant passengers. The researcher argued that although you can purchase, sell, and own, it is not a product, and you can live like a family by considering it as a companion, you should recognize companion animals, which are creatures different from humans, as third beings. Since companion animals are beings that cannot be contained by the existing aviation laws, airline regulations, and passengers' perception, it was suggested that related aviation laws and airline regulations on companion animals and passengers accompanying companion animals should be revised.
