Abstract
본 연구는 <1930년대 한국 소설 연구>를 통해 자산 신동욱의 학문적 역량과 업적을 살펴보고 한국 현대문학이 나아가야 할 방향을 모색한다는데 의미가 있다. <1930년대 한국소설 연구>에서 신동욱은 서정, 심리, 토속, 세태풍자, 농민 , 역사 소설이라는 6개 소설 양식의 내용과 형식이 1930년대라는 억압적인 시대적 상황 속에서 작가들이 현실 대응 방식으로서 고심한 미학적 의장이라는 점을 체계적으로 분석하였다. 신동욱은 문학의 자율성을 중시하고 특히 문학적이고 수사학적인 형상화를 통해 굴절되고 변형됨으로써 사회적 자아로 환원될 수 없는 문학내적 자아를 인정하였다. 이것은 그의 비평 작업에서 문학과 사회 간의 유비성을 고찰하면서도 문학 작품의 고유한 예술성을 분석하려는 미학적 태도로 반영되었다고 할 수 있다. 신동욱의 독보적 업적은 텍스트의 미학적 가치와 역사적 맥락을 결합하여 작가들의 다양하고 개성적인 문학적 성과를 제대로 평가한 점이라 할 수 있다. 그것은 문학 작품과 그것이 생산된 역사적 현실과의 동일성 내지 유사성을 찾아내는 방식, 즉 문학의 내용과 형식의 여러 현상들을 사회, 역사적 요인들과 직접 연관 지어 해석하는 환원주의적 연구 방법과는 확연히 다른 것이다. 신동욱이 전통과 현대를 소통시키려는 노력과 독자 수용론의 입장에서 민족문학의 역사적 계승성을 견지하려는 태도, 텍스트의 형식과 내용을 연결하여 해독하려는 비평적 관점은 현대 문학 연구 분야에서 지속적으로 도전해야 할 과제라고 할 수 있다.
This study is significant in that it examines the academic capabilities and achievements of Jasan Shin Dong-wook through the < Research of Korean Fiction in the 1930s > and explores the direction in which Korean contemporary literature should go. < In the 1930s Korean Fiction Studies >, Shin Dong-wook systematically analyzed that the content and form of the 6 novel styles of lyricism, psychology, vernacular, setyphoon, peasant, and historical fiction were aesthetic chairs that writers struggled with as a way of responding to reality in the oppressive period of the 1930s. Shin Dong-wook valued the autonomy of literature and acknowledged the irreducible literary inner self by being refracted and transformed through literary and rhetorical figuration. This can be said to have been reflected in his critical work as an aesthetic attitude that examined the ubiquity between literature and society while also analyzing the inherent artistry of literary works. Shin Dong-wook’s unique achievement is the combination of the text’s aesthetic value and historical context, which is a good assessment of the diverse and individual literary achievements of the writers. It is markedly different from the reductionist method which is to say that the method of finding the identity or similarity between a literary work and the historical reality in which it was produced, that is, interpreting the various phenomena of the content and form of literature in direct relation to social and historical factors. Shin Dong-wook’s efforts to communicate tradition and modernity, his willingness to uphold the historical succession of national literature from the standpoint of reader acceptance, and his critical perspective of linking and deciphering the form and content of texts are tasks that must be consistently challenged in the field of contemporary literary studies.
