Abstract
β-Methylamino-L-alanine(BMAA)isanemergingalgaltoxinthathasdrawnattentionbecauseitcancauseneurodegenerativediseases,includingParkinson'sdiseaseandAlzheimer'sdisease(AD).Therefore,itisnecessarytodevelopasensitiveanalyticalmethodforBMAA,anemergingcyanobacterialtoxin,todeterminewhetheratraceamountisdetectedinthewaterresourcesandtreatedwater.Inthisstudy,wedevelopedasimpleandsensitiveanalyticalmethodforBMAAusingliquidchromatography-tandemmassspectrometry(LC-MS/MS)withdirectinjection.Themethodwasvalidatedforlinearityofcalibration,limitofdetection,limitofquantitation,accuracy,andprecision.Thelimitsofdetectionandquantitationwereintherangeof0.030?/Land0.096?/L,respectively.TheoptimizedmethodwasusedtomeasuretheconcentrationsofBMAAinsurfacewaterfromeachweirpointoftheGeumRiver,NakdongRiver.SamplingandanalysisofdrinkingwatertreatmentplantsoftheGeumRiver,NakdongRiverwereappliedtosamplesforeachprocess.
