이 논문은 대학생들이 수강하는 담당과목의 교수에게 보낸 전자편지를 목적별로 나누어 그 특징과 공손전략을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 학생이 교수에게 보내는 전자편지는 동일한 대화자간 관계와 채널, 화제를 갖는 하나의 명백한 의사소통사례이다. 학생이 교수에게 전자편지를 쓰는 목적은 다양한데, 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 송신자인 학생은 다양한 공손전략을 사용할 것이다. 학생이 교수에게 편지를 쓰는 목적은 안부하기, 질문하기, 요청하기, 마음나타내기, 정보전하기, 제출하기로 나타났다. 예를 들어 요청하기는 상대방이 느끼는 부담의 크기가 가장 큰데, 칭찬, 불인정, 근거대기, 이유제시, 자기 비하 등 다양한 공손전략을 동반하고 있다. 이처럼 상대방에게 체면손상이나 부담을 주는 행위는 그만큼 다양한 공손전략이 요구됨을 알 수 있다. 이로써 전자편지라는 구조적 특징 내에서 학생이 자신의 목적을 달성시키기 위해 어떠한 전략을 사용하는지 분석하고, 다른 통신언어로 확대해 살펴볼 수 있다는 점에서 이 연구의 의의를 찾을 수 있다.
This study aims to analyze various pragmatic aspects of the e-mail letters by Korean University students. The e-mail from students to their professor are distinctive communicative event having same communicator, channel and topic. The purposes of students` e-mail are various. Those purposes are asking safety, asking a question, requesting, expressing emotion, reporting information and submitting homework. Students use various politeness strategy to achieve their purposes. For example, in case of requesting the amount of burden is the largest of all. So it is accompanied by compliment, disapproval, suggesting grounds and self-humbling etc. Therefore we notice that the face threatening acts ask for various politeness strategy.
