Abstract
Thailand saw general elections held in May 2023 to elect the members of the House of Representatives and establish a new government. The results show that the will of the people rejected the political intervention of the military, but the process of organizing a new government and changing the old one presented consecutive accidents indeed. Pita Limjaroenrat, who was the prime minister candidate of the Move Forward(Kao Klai) Party that won the largest number of votes in the general elections, failed to get majority consent in the joint roll-call vote between the Senate and the House of Representatives, which means that the one that people chose through an election could not be the nation's prime minister. It is because the structure allows one supported by the military to be a prime minister under the current constitution. The For Thais(Pheu Thai) Party in the Thaksin line as the second-place party joined forces with the military in long hostile relations and set up a new coalition government with Srettha Thavisin as the nation's 30th prime minister. The confrontation between the Thaksin forces and the anti-Thaksin forces managed to bring harmony after the general elections in the process of organizing a new government, but they excluded the For Thais Party which was the dominant party for their harmony and denied the election results as a result. The launch of a coalition government that continued the influence of the pro-military party made the course of democratization and electoral democracy still uncertain. This study aims to focus on the impact of the general elections on Thai politics and their significance by analyzing the outcomes of the 2023 general elections in Thailand and the process of establishing a coalition government.
