Abstract
The present paper investigates the woman image appeared in JinWen during the East and West dynasties. Firstly, we will examine marriage appeared in JinWen. As the combination of two groups, marriage played important roles in the production of a new generation through bearing and raising children. It is a kind of social behavior that regulates rights and obligations and forms the primary social formation of system and unit. Secondly, we will research the role of women related to memorial ceremony which were appeared in JinWen, and will examine the women sacrificed in memorial ceremony. All ofBronzes are expected to be associated with the memorial ceremony more or less. In Zhou Dynasty, the memorial ceremony has been considered as the country's serious affair which connected with the king's sovereignty closely. In order to maintain the supremacy, strict manners has been carried out. According to JinWen, we can know that a woman will become ancestor of her husband family when she died.Thirdly, varieties of women appellations were known as appearing in the bronze related to marriage. Appellation represents the personal characteristics, as well as the identity and status. Owing to distinguishing class, appellation may be considered as the important data to understand social structure. Women appellation in JinWen let us know that Women using surname may be regarded as characteristics of Zhou Dynasty. These appellations would be considered as reflecting social phenomena. Fourthly, women's social participation in Zhou Dynasty were considered as appearing in JinWen. Both 庚赢 and 庚姬 appearing in 庚赢鼎·庚赢卣·庚姬尊·庚姬卣 were awarded for their merit by King Zhou. As was mentioned above, women in Zhou Dynasty borning in their parent's home could keep their independent last name, after married their husband. Those who are considered as gaining the new status and position after the marriage. Through women appellations appearing in JinWen, we may know that a woman, as a mother, as a wife, can get the same status like her husband. We may know from women's social participation appearing in the literature and JinWen that most of noblewomen relied on their husband's position and power.
