본 논문은 전 세계적 인기를 얻고 있는 댄스 음악인 K-Pop 음악에 나타난 디스코 음악에 관한 연구이다. 2010년 이후 해외에서 디스코 음악이 부활했는데, 한국에서도 그 영향을 이어받아 디스코 요소를 포함한 다수의 K-Pop 곡이 발표되고 있다. 디스코 음악은 1970년대부터 1980년대까지 전성기를 이루다가 점차 쇠락했으나, 1990년대 이후 새로운 장르 탄생에 큰 영향을 주었다. 직접적으로는 테크노, 하우스 같은 일렉트로닉 댄스음악을 탄생시켰고, 간접적으로는 초기 랩의 샘플링과 모방의 소재가 되며 많은 하위 장르와 파생 장르들에 영향을 끼쳤다.본 연구는 현대 K-Pop에서 나타난 디스코 요소를 파악하기 위해 2010년대와 2020년대에 히트한 9곡을 선정하여 분석한다. 한국의 멜론(Melon) 차트와 미국의 빌보드(Billboard) 차트 상위권에 기록된 곡들을 대상으로 하여, 디스코 음악의 곡 구조와 편곡적 특징, 리듬 패턴, 선율 및 화성의 특징을 파악하고 다른 장르와의 혼합 및 다양성을 알아본다. 더불어 뮤직비디오에 나타난 디스코 요소들까지 분석하여, 디스코 음악이 K-Pop과 어떻게 결합하고 발전하였는지 알아보고 특징적 결과를 도출한다.분석 결과, K-Pop에서 나타난 디스코 음악의 특징은 후렴구를 많이 반복하고, Post Chorus를 추가한 구조적 특징이 있으며, 리듬 패턴이 반복되고 신디사이저를 다양한 기능으로 활용한다. 또한, 장르의 혼합 및 다양화가 일어나며 뮤직비디오 내에서 나타나는 레트로·뉴트로적 요소까지 확인할 수 있다.현 시대 음악시장은 흐름이 매우 빠르고, 다양한 장르의 음악이 생산되고 있다. 본 논문을 통해 K-Pop에서 활용되는 디스코 장르가 더욱 활성화되고 다양해질 수 있기를 바라며, 향후 디스코 장르 및 K-Pop을 연구하는 후속 연구자들에게 도움이 되기를 바란다.
This paper explores the Disco genre in K-Pop music, a Dance music genre gaining global popularity. The overseas revival of Disco music in 2010 has influenced on the release of numerous K-Pop songs with Disco elements in Korea.Disco music reached its pinnacle during the 1970s and 1980s, gradually declining afterward. However, its significant impact persisted, contributing to the emergence of new genres in post-1990. The Genre of Disco gave rise to electronic dance music including Techno and House. Also it served as a source for sampling and imitation in early Rap, influencing various sub-genres and derivatives.This study analyzes hit songs in the 2010s and 2020s, a total of nine, selected from the top of the Melon and US Billboard charts. The aim is to identify Disco elements in modern K-Pop, examining song structure, arrangement characteristics, rhythm patterns, melody, and harmony. This Study also deals with the combination of the genres. Furthermore, the study delves into the Disco elements depicted in music videos, in the realm of K-Pop. The characteristics of Disco Genre are as follows as in K-Pop. Repeated refrains, structural features incorporating post-chorus elements, recurring rhythm patterns, and the versatile use of synthesizers. The analysis reveals a blend and diversification of genres, featuring Retro and Newtro elements within music videos.Given the rapidly evolving music market with diverse genre combinations, this paper provides the use of Disco elements in K-Pop. I hope this study will be a valuable resource for future researchers investigating the Disco genre within the context of K-Pop.
