This study examines residents’ perceptions toward tourism development in urban and rural areas of Ecuador. Four hundred thirteen cases from personal interviews and e-mail survey using a snowball approach were executed using a cross sectional survey. This study has used Inferential and Descriptive research approaches, qualitative and quantitative method of primary data. A confirmatory factor analysis and a multiple regression analysis were performed using Hierarchical model. The qualitative analysis suggests 7 constructs: community attachment, economic, socio-environmental, cultural and personal impact as independent variables; perceived total impact of tourism as intervening variable and, attitude toward tourism development as dependent variable. The data indicate six variables education, tourism industry work experience, community attachment, socio-environmental, cultural and personal impact produced direct and indirect effects on the attitude toward tourism development. The analytical results suggest that those who had a high perception in cultural impact experience positive attitude toward tourism development and, those who had high perception in socio-environmental impact experienced a negative feeling toward tourism development. These variables are critical factors that affect the level of support tourism development in Ecuador. The implications of this study are introduced, limitations and recommendations for future research are presented.
본 연구는 에콰도르 도심 및 도외지역에 거주하는 주민의 시각에서 관광개발을 어떻게 평가하고 있는지 조사하였다. 횡단적 조사의 형태로 눈덩이표집을 활용하여 총 413개의 표본을 수집하였으며, 개별 인터뷰와 이메일 설문조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 질적 및 양적 1차 자료에 대해 추론적, 기술적 접근 방식을 사용하였다. 분석에는 계층모형을 활용한 확인적 요인 분석 및 다중회귀분석 방식을 사용하였다. 양적 연구에서는 7개의 변수들을 제시하였다: 독립변수로 지역 유대감, 경제적 요인, 사회-환경적 요인, 문화 및 개인적 영향; 매개변수로 인지된 관광의 총 영향을 그리고 종속변수로 관광 개발에 대한 태도를 제시하였다.자료에 따르면, 교육, 관광 산업에서 종사한 경험, 지역 유대감, 사회적-환경적 요인, 문화적-개인적 영향의 6개의 변수에서 관광 개발에 대한 태도에 직-간접적인 영향을 주는 것으로 확인되었다. 이를 분석한 결과, 문화적 영향에 대해 높은 인식을 가진 사람들은 관광 개발에 대해 긍정적인 경험을 하였으며, 사회-환경적 영향에 높은 인식을 가진 사람들은 관광 개발에 대해 부정적인 느낌을 경험한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 변수들은 에콰도르의 관관 개발에 대한 지지도에 영향을 미치는 중요한 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 연구가 갖는 함의와 한계 및 향후 연구를 위한 제언을 함께 제시하였다.
