Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to find out whether there would be differences in anxiety between Chinese children and Korean children according to family type, grade, and sex. The participants of the study were 199 elementary school students. They consisted of 83 Chinese children and 116 Korean children. 155 students came from a normal family and 44 students came from a broken family. The children's anxiety was measured using 'The Children's Anxiety Scale' by Cho and Choi (1990). The Chinese version was prepared for Chinese children. Several two-way ANOVAs were computed. The main results were as follows: First, the children from a broken family showed higher anxiety scores than those from a normal family. In sub-scales, children from a broken family felt more fear than those from a normal family, and Korean children showed more alienation and unhappiness than Chinese children.Second, no interaction effects on anxiety were found between family type and sex and between family type and grade.
