Abstract
Since the 2000s, more than 50% of the structural weight of the civil aircraft B787 has been used as a composite. As the proportion of composite material use in aircraft increases, technology development for the inspection methods for composite structures is also rapidly progressing. Among them, in the case of conventional non-destructive testing methods, the technology level has been verified, but there are limitations such as excessive inspection time and cost. In particular, the intervention of inspection professionals is required, and probes or equipment must be accessed to structures that require inspection. And if it is not accessible, aircraft structures may be required to be disassembled. In order to compensate for these limitations, the development of structural health monitoring method that can quickly detect and follow up defects through sensors mounted on structures is currently underway. In this paper, structural health monitoring system using piezoelectric sensors is applied to composite specimens and evaluated through comparative analysis with traditional ultrasonic detection tests.
