영화는 대중매체의 큰 축으로서 사회환경의 다양한 문제들을 영상화하여 직간접적으로 논의해볼 수 있게 하는 중요한 역할을 담당해왔다. 기존 다양한 국가들이 국가 간 권력투쟁, 경제발전 등으로 미뤄왔던 여성문제, 인권문제, 인종차별문제, 환경문제들이 사회적 관심이슈로 떠오르고 있는 요즘 현대 사회에서 가장 쟁점이 되고 있는 화두는 젠더의식이라고도 할 수 있을 것이다. 젠더의식과 관련한 영화가 개봉할 때마다 한국뿐만 아니라 세계에서 여성과 남성 양측의 활발한 논쟁이 이루어지기도 한다. 하지만 대부분의 논란 및 연구는 영화 속 여성 캐릭터에 집중하는 경향을 보여주어 주변 사회환경 및 프레임을 살펴보지 못한다는 한계점을 지니고 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 연구목적은 한중미 3국의 여성영화,, , 의 남성캐릭터와 단편영화의 기획 및 제작과정 속 남성캐릭터 형상화 작업을 통해 여성의 시각에서 바라본 남성 및 사회환경의 공통점 및 차이점을 분석하는 데 있다. 이 연구는 이러한 결과를 도출하기 위해 다음과 같은 연구를 구성하였다. 제2장에서는 한중미 3국의 젠더의식과 영화 속 젠더의식의 흐름을 살펴보고, 젠더의식 변화를 비교한다. 영화 속 이미지 표현이 어떠한 역사적 연관성을 지니는지 살펴보고, 여성이미지 변화의 과정을 통해 상대적으로 변화되는 남성캐릭터 변화의 근거를 알아볼 수 있다. 제3장에서는 한중미 3국의 영화 중 각 두 편씩 총 여섯 편과 단편영화를 대상으로 상호분석 및 비교를 살펴본다. 영화 속 남성 캐릭터들의 성격, 직업, 결혼 및 육아 상황을 분석하고 비교한다. 이에 따라 여성이나 여성 단체가 직면하고 있는 환경과 갈등을 분석하고 비교한다. 위의 방법을 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 도출한다. 연구 결과를 통해 확인할 수 있는 한중미 3국 영화와 단편영화의 남성캐릭터의 차이점은 다음과 같다. 한국 영화 속 여성의 고난은 대부분 남성을 원인으로 하기에 대부분의 남성캐릭터가 부정적인 모습으로 그려지고 있으며, 남녀갈등의 문제를 여성과 남성의 성대결 측면에서 바라보고 있는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 중국의 경우에는 전통문화의 영향을 받아 가부장제가 남아있는 모습을 보이긴 하지만 사회주의 국가로서 여성의 사회참여 역사가 긴 만큼 한국의 경우보다 입체적인 남성의 캐릭터를 보여준다. 미국의 경우 대표적인 서구 국가로 페미니즘의 역사가 길어 3국 중 비교적 나은 모습을 보여주고 여성문제의 초점을 극복가능한 여성 자신의 개인갈등으로 바라보는 측면이 있다. 단편영화 의 경우에는 최대한 입체적이고 다양한 남성캐릭터의 배치를 통해서 다양한 사회환경이 보여주고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이 연구를 통해 한중미 3국이 문화와 역사가 다른 국가임에도 여성주의의 발전에 양성평등과 여성의 행복을 추구한다는 공통점을 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 한편으로는 각 국가가 여성문제를 해결하고자 진보적으로 노력할지라도 전통적인 가부장제 사상에서 완전히 해방되기는 쉽지 않은 것으로 파악된다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 여성의 주변인으로서의 남성 캐릭터의 복잡한 양상에 주목, 세 국가의 영화 속에 나타난 여성 이미지를 비교 연구하였다.
As a significant carrier of social media, films are able to reflect changing social environment and problems through imaging of society reality which play an important role in cultural communication of modern society. Women issues is one of the concepts that filmmakers around the world are extremely passionate about, however as the social and cultural differences caused by ideological differences, women issue still have a long way to go. All the releases of female movies would draw an intense discussion, particular in Asia. On the basis of gender sense, this research has profile analyzed representative male characters in Korean, Chinese and American female films, combined with the experience of imaging male characters of “Babe” in production stage, therefore objectively studied and dissected similarities and discrepancy of Korean, Chinese and American female films. In conclusion, three types of contradictions can be concluded from the research above that contradiction between women and men is emphasized in representative Korean female films, contradiction between women and society is mainly embodied in Chinese female films and American female films are bias to convey contradiction between women and themselves. On the basis of conclusion above, combined with the depiction of male characters in “Babe” to demonstrate the significance of objective perspective and direction of discovery in female films. Despite the dissection of male characters in female perspective to reflect current situation of female films, this research also demonstrates obstacles of female movies under gender sense in a more objective manner. In the same time, what can be learned through imaged social issues is that complete gender equality led by physical and psychological objective difference may only exist in subjective perspective. Thus, the feminist movement that prevails throughout the world is inevitable in response to social discovery. No matter male of female, what we need to do is to realize self-independence rather than facing society negatively as the victims.
