기독교가 중국 근대 교육에 미친 영향 : 학제, 여성교육, 유아교육, 특수교육 면에서 / Christian Influence on Chinese Modern Education

Abstract
현대 중국에서는 기독교와 교육은 서로 보완하면서 발전하였고 중국의 문화, 교육 사업은 기독교 때문에 커다란 진전을 이루었다. 이 논문은 청 나라말부터 1950년대 기독교 교육 쇠퇴 시기까지 연구의 시점으로 두었으며, 역사 토대로 문헌 고찰 방법을 통한 역사적 해석 접근법을 사용하여 반봉건 반식민지 시대의 근대 기독교 교육의 설립 배경을 알아본다. 또한 학제, 여성교육, 유아교육, 특수교육의 면에서 기독교 교육이 근대 중국 교육에 어떠한 영향을 주었는지를 살펴본 다음에 역사 자료를 토대로 근대 중국 교회 교육의 성공 또는 실패 이류를 분석하고, 현대 중국 교육에 대한 기독교 교육의 영향력을 정확하게 검토하여 오늘날의 교육에 대한 시사점을 연구하여 논의하고자 한다. 기독교교육은 정쟁과 선교에 따라 중국에서 발전해 왔지만 여전히 중국 근대 교육에 영향을 미쳤다. 기독교교육으로 인해 중국에서 6-3-3-4의 근대 학제가 확립되었고 특히 중국의 현대 여성교육, 유아교육, 특수 교육에 면에서 완전한 공공 교육 시스템이 확립되었으며 개선되었다. 기독교 교육은 중국 근대교육에 큰 영향을 미쳤지만 기독교의 지원을 받기 때문에 비기독교운동과 교육권을 되찾기 운동으로 인해 많은 충격을 받았고 결국 기독교 교육은 중국 본토에서 퇴출됐다.
This study aims at investigating the overall influence of Christianity over modern Chinese education ranging from the end of Ching Dynasty to 1950s when the Christian legacy began to ebb. The study is based on the premise that contrary to the popular perception the relationship between the Christianity and modern culture of China has been reciprocal. In this study, I first divide the domains of modern Chinese education into four — schooling systems, female education, early childhood education, and special education; and I mainly rely on the literature survey on these domains. I also introduce major historical interpretations of the Christian influence with regards to its anti-feudal and anti-colonial contexts. From this study, I conclude that despite some failures of the Christian attempts to modernize China in religious ways, or to christianize China in general, the Christianity in general left its enormous legacy on the modern Chinese culture and education. The modern schooling system featuring 6-3-3-4 has been introduced and established; female education has become one important aspect of modern Chinese education, and the equal education for men and women has been accepted and assumed; early childhood education has developed into the initial stage of formal education which is financially supported and supervised by the state; and finally, special education has been accomplished as one type of formal schooling. In this study, I contend that these educational achievements of modern China have been made possible due to the Christian influence.
