J.W.Goethe(1749~1832)의 은 많은 작곡가들에 의해 가곡화 되었다. 은 J.W.Goethe의 소설인 에 나오는 등장 인물인 Mignon의 시를 토대로 한 작품이며, Mignon의 시는 “kennst du das Land”, “Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt”, “Heiss’ mich nicht reden”, “So lasst mich scheinen”으로 이루어져 있다.Goethe는 음악에 조예가 깊은 시인으로서 많은 작곡가들에게 창작에 대한 영감을 제공하였고, 실제로 낭만 시대에 그의 시를 토대로 한 예술 가곡들은 수없이 많다. 소설 에 나오는 여러 주요 등장 인물 중 한 명인 Mignon은 슬픈 운명을 가진 소녀이다. 하지만, Goethe는 그녀의 비극적 운명을 낭만적인 순수함으로 승화시켰다. 그리하여, Goethe에 의해 부여된 Mignon의 sentimentalism은 많은 낭만 주의 작곡가들에게 영감을 불어 넣어 매우 흥미로운 창작의 소재가 되었다.은 실제로 Reihardt(1752~1814), Zelter(1758~1832), Beethoven(1770~1827), Schubert(1797~1828), Schumann(1810~1856), Wolf(1860~1903) 등에 의해 작곡되었다. 이들 중 Schubert, Schumann, Wolf가 4개의 Mignon의 시를 모두 사용하여 리트를 작곡하였다. Schubert와 Schumann은 Mignon의 가곡화에 있어서 많은 유사한 음악적 기법을 보여 주는 반면, Wolf는 후기 낭만 시대에 Wagner의 영향을 받아 이전과는 다른 리트의 작곡 기법들을 보여 주었다. 그러한 이유로 Schumann과 Wolf의 음악적 특징을 비교해 보는 것은 흥미로운 일이라 생각된다. 본 논문에서는 R.schumann의 과 H.wolf의 을 분석하고 비교하여 그들이 같은 시를 토대로 하여 어떻게 자신만의 음악을 개성 있게 표현하였는지 연구해 보도록 하겠다.본 논문은 3개의 주요 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 제 1장 서론에서는 연구 목적과 의의를 다룬다. 제 2장 본론에서는 Goethe의 작품 의 창작 배경과 내용을 바탕으로 하여 Mignon의 시들을 파악하고 R.schumann과 H.wolf의 을 연구한다. 마지막으로 제 3장 결론에서는 이 연구를 통해 얻게 된 결과를 토대로 하여, 반주자가 실제 연주에 있어서 어떻게 작곡가의 의도를 정확히 이해 하고 반영할 수 있는지 살펴 본다.
of J.W.Goethe(1749~1832) was set into the music by many composers. , comprised of four songs, is the work based upon the poems of Mignon in the “Wilhelm Meister”of J.W.Goethe. Those are‘Kennst du das Land’, ‘Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt’, ‘Heiss’ mich nicht reden’, ‘So lasst mich scheinen’.Goethe, who had a profound knowledge in music, offered creative inspirations to many Romantic composers. On the 90 “Wilhelm Meister”, Mignon is a lonely character who has a sorrowful destiny. But Goethe transcends her tragic lives to a romantic purity. Therefore, sentimentalism expressed by Goethe in the life of Mignon inspired many Romantic composers and provided very exciting material for the composers.Many Romantic composers set a music to the , such as Reihardt(1752~1814), Zelter(1758~1832), Beethoven(1770~1827), Schubert(1797~1828), Schumann(1810~1856), and Wolf(1860~1903). Among them, Schubert, Schumann, and Wolf are the composers who used the full cycle of songs of Mignon. Schubert and Schumann exhibits many similar musical traits in the songs of Mignon. However, Wolf who was heavily affected by Wagner, shows more advanced compositional technics than ever. All these facts lead us to conclude that comparing musical idiom of Schumann and Wolf is very exciting and inspiring for performers.This thesis, which is comprised of three sections, analyzes and compares of R.schumann and of H.wolf. The first chapter explains the purpose of this study. The second chapter, which is the main body of the thesis, 91 provides the background and summary of “Wilhelm Meister”. Also, it delves into analysis and comparison of the of Schumann and Wolf. In conclusion, the final part summarizes the study on the and sheds lights on valuable musical insight in accompanying the work.
