This study was surveyed from June , 2006 to August 10, 2006 to find out the actual conditions of the pet grooming administration. The research subjects were composed of the fifty-two animal clinic and fifty pet shops located in five divisions of Daejeon metropolitan city.The study was administered to show the fundamental data which were necessary for the development of the pet industry and the job of pet grooming. The results obtained were as follows:1. 88.5% of the pet groomers working at the pet salons were female, 78.7% of them aged from twenties to thirties, 55.7% of them went through more than junior college educational background, 67.8% of them were in the position of the head of a pet salon, and 51.7% of them worked more than three years.2. In the period of pet grooming, 62.1% of the pet dog owners had their dogs groomed at the pet salons every two months.3. About the prospect for pet grooming, 72.3% of the pet groomers said "so-so" or "bad" and 48.1% of them expressed their dissatisfaction toward the price satisfaction.4. About the health condition of the pet dogs, 51.7% of the pet groomers said "good", about the skin condition of the pet dogs, 21.8% of the pet groomers said "good", about the ear condition of the pet dogs 24.1% of the pet groomers said "good", and about the eye condition of the pet dogs 56.3% of the pet groomers said "good".5. The distributions of the pet dogs were Poodle and Yorkshire Terrier on the whole, and the next are Shih Tzu and Maltese in order.6. In terms of the average head number of grooming the pet dogs per day, four or six pet dogs in common were given grooming in Jung-Gu, Daedeok-Gu, and Yuseong-Gu, while less than three pet dogs were given grooming in Seo-Gu and Dong-Gu.7. In the preference degree of grooming pattern, most of the pet groomers had a preference for the clipping method which remains ears, tails, and faces untouched on the whole, but there was a little difference according to each district.8. In the preference degree of cut length most of the pet groomers on the whole preferred the method of 3.2mm(7#) converse direction, but there was a little difference according to each district.9. In the aspect of dyeing, most of the pet groomers dyed one of the ten dogs, but they dyed two or three of the ten dogs in Daedeok-Gu.As a conclusion, being compared with the cases of the advanced countries, the pet grooming style was not primarily scissoring but clipping and there was a lot of lack of skill. Accordingly it is more practical method to graft the proper grooming skill which is appropriate for our situation onto the new grooming skill of the advanced countries rather than just to absorb the overall cases of the advanced countries. And there are plenty of things in the grooming skill which need to be improved along with the skill development.
