도시 경관을 통해 바라본 소외에 관한 회화 연구 : 본인의 작품을 중심으로 / A study on painting about alienation by observing the cityscape

Abstract
인간은 자신을 둘러싼 세계와 서로 영향을 주고받으며 살아간다. 여기서 ‘세계’라 함은 지구상의 모든 나라, 또는 인류 사회 전체를 의미하기도 하고, 집단적 범위를 지닌 특정 사회나 영역, 대상이나 현상의 모든 범위까지를 아우르는 다의적인 표현이다. 세계에 대한 인식을 이미지의 재현을 통해 발현하는 예술가 각자가 느끼는 세계란 개인적 사유와 사변에 의해 더 세분화 될 수밖에 없을 것이고, 당연히 그 결과로서 보여지는 예술작품 또한 다양한 양상을 띠게 된다. 과거와 비교하여 현재는 세계라고 표현되어지는 모든 범주가 계속하여 다양성을 띠어가고 있고, 거기에 따르는 인식의 층위 또한 무한한 확장을 계속하고 있다. 본인의 작업은 크게 2009년을 기준으로 두 가지 다른 양상을 띠고 있다. 본론에서 주로 논의하게 되는 2009년 이후 작업에서는, 이전 작업들에서의 세계에 대한 인식이 본인 내면의 감각적 경험에 집중했던 것을 떠나 외부로 이동하게 된다. 이것은 작업에 대한 본인의 조형적 지향점과 인식의 변화에 따른 결과라고도 할 수 있다. 특히, 도시의 경관에 주목하게 되는데 이렇게 자아의 인식이 변화하는 과정에서 작품은 시각적으로 보여지는 이미지상에서 상당한 변화의 국면을 맞이하게 된다. 변화는 어떤 시각적 충격에 대한 경험에서 비롯하였는데, 특히 이미지를 캔버스에 재현하는 작가의 입장에서 세계에 대한 인식과 관련된 특정 감정을 불러일으키는 계기가 된 그때의 경험은 중요한 작업의 모티프가 되었다. 하지만 작업이 단순히 이미지의 표면에 천착하게 되는 딜레마에 빠지지 않기 위해 또, 그때의 시각경험이 불러일으킨 소외라는 감정을 설명할 수 있기 위하여 충분히 대상을 이해하고 파악할 필요가 있었다. 본인은 그 원인을 개인사적 측면에서부터 분석하기 시작하였고, 결과적으로 그러한 감정이 서울에서 거주하면서 항상 마주하게 된 아파트 이미지나 도시 경관이 투영하는 자본주의적 분위기와 깊은 연관이 있음을 깨닫게 되었다. 본 논문에선 도시의 경관과 아파트라는 상징물에 비추어 보는 현대 도시사회의 자본주의적 특성들을 살펴봄으로써 본인에게 내재되어 있던 세계에 대한 자아의 인식적 측면이 어떠한 것이었는지를 밝혀감과 동시에 어떤 지점에서 본인에게 ‘소외’의 감정을 불러일으키게 하였는지를 알아보고자 한다. 또한 표현방식의 측면도 함께 살펴봄으로서 소외라는 감정이 어떻게 작품에서 발현되고 있는지 점검해보고자 한다. 이러한 과정을 통하여 본인의 세계에 대한 인식과 감정을 작품에 더욱 비중있게 담아가기 위한 과정으로서 수행된 이 연구가, 동시대를 살아가는 사람들과의 작품을 통한 더욱 긴밀한 소통과 작품에서의 깊이 있는 예술적 성취로의 발로가 되기를 바란다.
Humans live affecting the world and being affected by the world that surrounds them. The implication of the ‘world’ here is equivocal as it can mean all the nations in the world, the entire human societies, the specific society or area that has collective range, or even all the ranges of objects or phenomenons. The world that is felt by each of the artists who reveal the recognition of the world through the representation of image would have to be even more segmented by personal cause and speculations, and the artistic pieces that are produced as a result would yield various aspects. Compared to the past, as for the present, all the categories that are expressed as the world are continuously generating diversity, and the layer of recognition that follows are also infinitely being expanded. As for my works, there are mainly two different aspects since the year 2009. As for the works after 2009 that are mainly discussed in the body, the recognition of the world in the previous works move from where it concentrated in my internal sensational experiences to the externality. This may be as a result of the change of my formative directing point and the recognition. The cityscape is especially focused on, and during the process of the change of self-recognition, the pieces enter the phase of significant changes on the images that are visually shown. The change derived from the experience about some visual shocks, and from the perspective of the artist who reproduces the images on canvas, the past experience that was a chance to evoke specific emotion related to the recognition of the world, became a significant motivation for the work. But in order to stay away from the dilemma in which the work is poked into the surface of the image, and also to be able to explain the emotion called alienation that is evoked by past visual experience, it was necessary to sufficiently understand the object and comprehend. I began to analyze the cause from my personal historical aspects, and eventually I realized that there is a relation between such emotion and the capitalistic atmosphere that is reflected by apartment images or urban landscapes which I saw all the time residing in Seoul. The intention of this essay is to figure out what the cognitive aspect of self about the world that was inherent in myself and simultaneously to discover the specific point in which the emotion of 'alienation' was evoked, by examining the capitalistic features of modern urban society that is reflected in symbolistic icons called the urban landscapes and the apartment. Also, the way how the emotion called 'alienation' is revealed in the pieces will be inspected as well. It is hopefully desired that through this process, this research that was carried out in order to contain the recognition of self-created world and the emotion more heavily, turns out to be the expressions of the in-depth artistic accomplishments in closer communications and pieces through the pieces with people living in contemporary world.
