Abstract
Temperature distribution of MEA in PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) are investigated by experiment and numerical study in various operation condition. In oder to measure temperature of MEA inside, 75μm T-type thermocouple are inserted between two sheet membrane which are Nafion 115. Because current occurred at MEA inside, thermocouple could not use at MEA inside. So thermocouple was coated by using enamel. The temperature distribution of MEA are measured with increasing current density for non-heated cell(atmosphere temperature 18˚C) at a relative humidity and non-humidity condition. In order to investigate the local temperature, water content and current density on the membrane and gas velocity in the channel of the PEMFC, the numerical studies using the es-pemfc module of STAR-CD, which have been matched the experimental data, are conducted in detail. In experiment results, outlet temperature is more high than inlet. According to increase of flow rate, temperature of over MEA are increased. and humidity condition is more stable and high temperature than non-humidity condition. This results can supply more accurate reference for improvement of cell design and operating, proper water/heat management and validation of numerical models.
