Abstract
Contemporary society visualizes the objects of expression suggestively in order to stimulate people’s visual sense. For example, the image of a movie poster reveals the characteristics of the movie, and various products are designed gorgeously and uniquely in order to tempt consumers and arouse their curiosity. Furthermore, we are using high tech systems like computer, TV, digital camera and video phone, and movies, dramas and advertisements are overflowing with images appealing to our sensitivity. From these stimulating and emotional images, we can experience and be absorbed into new things.Marshall McLuhan asserted that new media technologies bring about new sense balance, with which people perceive spatial relations differently and create new patterns of communication. In arts as well, the use of technologies allow us to produce works of a new sense, to create new spaces, and to communicate with the audience.It is not exaggeration to say that art is creating history by reading the trend of the corresponding age. Art is repeating new challenges and advances in response to the rapidly changing trend of the age. In dance art, furthermore, 4D art works are being born of the utilization of image technologies and the crossover of diverse genres. 4D art is generating new senses and creating new expressions through harmonizing the characteristics of each genre.Image technologies enhance the expression value of works with visual images, and allow the creation of interactive arts that can arouse emotions in the audience through interactive communication. Interactive art creates an art work together with the viewers through stimulating their five senses and producing a synergy effect.Today’s dance audience pursues newness, freshness, and uniqueness, and desires original works. In response to the demand, dance artists are utilizing image technologies in order to create fresh and original works.This study was focused on Jose Montalvo’s 「On Danse」 that utilizes video art and projection, and Peter Trosztmer’s A「 Tribute to Norman McLaren」 that utilizes animation, holography and 4D art.Jose Montalvo’s 「On Danse」produces a feast of senses by adding imaginative worlds and fantastic feelings using video art and projection image technology. Moreover, it expresses movements more effectively so that the audience’s visual sense is stimulated and fascinated by the work.In addition, Peter Trosztmer’s 「A Tribute to Norman McLaren 」is 4D art in which Norman Mclaren’s animation crosses over with a dance work. Stimulating the five senses through the harmony of the characteristics of animation and dance, the work creates a new spatial sense and new expressions. Moreover, it generates various virtual images with light using the holographic image technology, leading the audience to a world of imagination on the stage and new atheistic experiences.Dance works 「On Danse」and 「A Tribute to Norman McLaren」 utilizing image technologies create a virtual world by expanding the space of expression, induce the performers and the viewers to create the work together through interactive communication, and intensify aesthetic excitement by stimulating not only the elements of the visual sense but all of the five sense. Furthermore, they produce the beauty of play that gives pleasure through synaesthetic experiences.Accordingly, they are expected to give an insight to rapidly changing culture, to induce a receptive open attitude toward new cultures and, moreover, to bring more innovative changes. Therefore, the utilization of image technologies in dance works may have potential to generate a new synergy effect.
무용작품을 감상하는 현대의 관객들은 현대적 감각과 감성에 호응하는 새로움, 신선함, 독특함을 추구하고 개성 있는 작품들을 원하고 있으며 이에 대응하여 무용예술가들은 독창적이고 참신한 작품들을 창조하기 위해 비디오 아트, 프로젝션, 레이저 아트, 홀로그래피, 컴퓨터 그래픽 등 영상테크놀로지를 적극적으로 활용하고 있다.무용에서 영상테크놀로지의 활용은 시각적인 영상들이 관객들의 마음을 사로잡을 수 있는 힘을 가지고 유희적인 감성을 자극시킨다. 또 다른 새로운 의미를 창조할 수도 있고 표현의 범위도 무한히 넓힐 뿐 아니라 새로운 각도의 참신한 효과를 준다. 특히 시각적인 표현은 개인의 경험을 통하여 축적된 기억에 반영되어 나타ご?감정을 불러일으키며, 또한 무용과 영상테크놀로지와의 조합으로 주제를 강조하거나 새로운 주의를 끌게 하여 그 본래 이미지를 더욱 부각 시킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 작품을 보다 효과적으로 전달 할 수 있다.본 연구에서는 비디오 아트와 프로젝션을 활용한 호세 몽딸보의 작품 「On Danse」와 애니메이션과 홀로그래피, 4D 아트를 활용한 피터 트로츠머의 작품「A Tribute to Norman McLaren」을 중심으로 연구하였다.호세 몽딸보의「On Danse」는 비디오 아트와 프로젝션 영상테크놀로지 활용으로 상상의 세계와 환상적인 느낌을 더하여 감각의 향연을 연출하였다. 또한 시각적인 감성을 자극시킨 작품 속으로 매료시켜 즐거움에 흠뻑 취할 수 있도록 하여 움직임을 보다 효과적으로 표현하였다.그리고 피터 트로츠머의「A Tribute to Norman McLaren」은 노만 맥라렌의 애니메이션 작품과 무용작품이 크로스 오버한 4D 아트로서, 애니메이션과 무용의 특성이 융합되어 오감을 자극하여 새로운 공감각을 만들어 내었고, 새로운 표현이 창조되었다. 또한 홀로그래피를 활용하여 빛으로 다양한 허상을 만들어 내면서 관객을 무대 위 상상의 세계로 빠져들게 하였으며, 이에 따라 관객들은 새로운 미적 경험을 할 수 있었다.곧「On Danse」와 「A Tribute to Norman McLaren」과 같은 무용작품에서는 영상테크놀로지를 활용하여 시각적인 이미지들로 작품의 표현가치를 높였으며, 관객의 감성을 이끌어내어 쌍방향 커뮤니케이션을 가능하게 하였고, 유희적인 미학 세계를 엿볼 수 있게 하였다.이와 같이 영상테크놀로지의 활용을 통해 표현공간의 영역을 확장시켜 가상의 세계를 창조하고, 쌍방향 커뮤니케이션으로 공연자와 감상자가 함께 참여하여 작품을 만들어나가며, 시각적 감성요소 뿐만 아니라 오감을 자극하여 미적 감흥을 더한다. 그리고 공감각적인 체험으로 즐거움을 느낄 수 있는 유희의 미를 생성한다따라서 영상테크놀로지를 적극적으로 활용하는 무용무대는, 급 변화하는 문화에 대한 통찰력과 함께 새로운 문화에 대한 수용과 개방적인 자세를 지닐 수 있을 것이고 또한 보다 혁신적인 변화를 가져 올 수 있을 것이다. 그런 이유에서 무용작품에서의 영상테크놀로지 활용은 새로운 시너지 효과를 일으킬 잠재력으로 전망 할 수 있을 것이다.현대의 예술가들에게는 다른 영역과의 장벽을 허물어 소통할 수 있는 방향을 찾는 사고의 전환이 필요하며 그것을 통해 그들은 독창적인 컨셉을 창출하여 새로운 예술관 및 세계관을 구현하도록 하여야 할 것이다. 무용작품에서 영상테크놀로지를 새로운 방식의 하나로 수용함으로써 독창적인 표현 수단이 될 수 있으므로, 현대의 안무가들은 영상테크놀로지를 적절히 그리고 적극적으로 수용하고 활용할 수 있어야 하며 이를 무용예술의 해체가 아닌 혁신과 발전의 과정으로 받아들어야 할 것이다.
