This year marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the movie "Oasis," which depicts the love between a Kong-ju with cerebral palsy and an ex-convict, Jong-du. When we think of the movie, we only remember the pure love of disabled and non-disabled people, but when we see a Kong-ju who has no intellectual problems feeling in love with a man who tried to rape her, we can see that the director also sees the disabled as just sexually helpless and incompetent. at the same time, each scene also gives a contradictory message that the prejudice against the disabled should be broken, making the viewer feel ambivalent.In this paper, we tried to analyze the disabled in Korean novels written from the perspective of non-disabled people, examine what changes have occurred in the perspective of non-disabled people in the 20 years since the arrival of the millennium, and present a direction to move forward. To this end, about 12 of the Korean novels published from 2000 to 2021 were analyzed to find out the type and cause of disability, job and education level, how their disabilities affected love and marriage, the disabled's social activities, and the non-disabled's view of the disabled.First, as a result of examining the types of disabled people in Korean novels, it was found that most of the disabled people who appear as the subject of the novel are physically disabled who have no major problems with intellectual ability. It was found that there were many people with disabilities due to acquired causes rather than innate causes as the acquired cause rather than the innate cause. In addition, in terms of jobs, you can see that you are living as a member of society while having a more diverse job. Next, in education, it can be seen that there are few references to education for the disabled in novels. However, as for love and marriage, it can be confirmed that their love is generally accepted as awareness of the disabled gradually increases. Regarding social activities, it shows that in a society where non-disabled people still come first, their social activities are inevitably passive. Next, there were works that could not overcome their disabilities regarding the attitude of the disabled looking at their disabilities, but more than half of them had positive perceptions or were initially negative but gradually changing positively. Lastly, it can be seen that the perception of the disabled has changed a lot as more than half of the views on the disabled are positive.As described above, we looked at the view of the disabled through Korean novels, but it can be confirmed that uncomfortable views on the disabled are still contained throughout the work. This remains an unresolved problem even though the times have changed and the level of education has risen. This is because, like the movie "Oasis," a non-disabled writer does not have the right view of the disabled and dismisses their disabilities as a conflict element or device in the novel from a perspective far from reality. Therefore, through this paper, I hope that writers with the right view of the disabled will appear in the future and become a healthy society where the disabled can appear in their works as natural members of our society, not others.
뇌성마비를 가진 공주와 전과 4범의 종두의 사랑을 그린 영화 ‘오아시스’가 개봉한지도 올해로 20년이 되었다. 우리가 그 영화를 떠올릴 때면 그저 장애인과 비장애인의 순수한 사랑만이 기억에 남아 있겠지만, 지적능력에는 문제가 없는 공주가 자신의 강간하려고 한 남자에게 사랑을 느끼는 장면을 볼 때면 결국 감독 또한 비장애인의 시선에서 그저 장애인을 무기력하고, 성적으로도 무능력한 존재로 그리고 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 그러면서도 장면 장면마다 장애인에 대한 편견을 깨야 한다는 모순적인 메시지도 동시에 주고 있어 보는 이로 하여금 양가적 감정을 느끼게 만든다. 이렇듯, 본 논문에서는 비장애인의 시각에서 쓰인 한국소설에 나타나는 장애인물을 분석해 보고 밀레니엄이 도래한 이후 20년 동안 비장애인이 장애인을 보는 시각에는 또 어떠한 변화가 있었는지를 살펴보며 반성적 고찰과 더불어 앞으로 나아가야 할 방향성을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2000년부터 2021년까지 출간된 한국소설 가운데 약 12편의 소설을 분석하여 장애의 유형과 원인, 직업과 교육 수준은 어떠한지, 그들의 장애가 사랑과 결혼생활에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지, 장애인의 사회활동, 그리고 장애인이 자신의 장애를 바라보는 관점과, 비장애인이 장애인을 바라보는 관점에 대해 규명하였다. 먼저 한국소설에 등장하는 장애인의 유형을 살펴본 결과, 소설에서 주체가 되는 인물로 등장하는 장애인은 지적능력에는 크게 문제가 없는 지체장애인이 대부분을 이루는 것으로 나타났고, 장애의 원인으로는 선천적인 원인보다는 후천적인 원인으로 장애를 가지게 된 인물이 많은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 직업에 있어서는 보다 다양한 직업을 가지면서 사회 구성원으로 살아가고 있는 모습도 볼 수 있다. 다음으로 교육에서는 소설에서 장애인에 대한 교육의 언급이 적음을 확인할 수 있지만, 사랑과 결혼 생활에 대해서는 장애인들에 대한 인식이 점차 높아짐에 따라 그들의 사랑도 보편적으로 받아들여지고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 사회활동에 대해서는 여전히 비장애인이 먼저인 사회에서 그들의 사회활동은 소극적일 수밖에 없다는 것을 보여주고 있다. 다음으로 장애인이 자신의 장애를 바라보는 태도에 대해서는 결국 자신의 장애를 극복하지 못하는 작품도 있었으나, 긍정적 인식을 가지고 있거나 처음에는 부정적이었으나 점차 긍정적으로 바뀌어가는 작품들이 과반이 넘는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 비장애인이 보는 장애인에 대한 시각 또한 긍정적인 시각이 과반이 넘는 비율로 보아 장애인에 대한 인식이 많이 변화해 왔음을 확인할 수 있다. 이상으로 한국소설을 통해 장애인관을 살펴보았지만 여전히 장애인에 대한 불편한 시각은 작품 곳곳에 내제되어 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 이는 시대가 변하고 교육 수준이 올라갔음에도 여전히 고쳐지지 않은 문제점으로 남아있는데, 이것은 영화 ‘오아시스’와 마찬가지로 비장애인인 작가가 올바른 장애인관을 가지지 못하고 왜곡된 시각으로 그들의 장애를 소설 속에서 하나의 갈등 유발 장치로 치부하기 때문이라 본다. 그러므로 본 논문을 통해 향후에는 올바른 장애인관을 가진 작가들이 등장하여 장애인을 타자가 아닌 우리사회의 자연스러운 구성원으로 그들의 작품 속에서 등장할 수 있는 건강한 사회가 되길 바란다.
