Head injury caused by blows of a beer bottle was assessed by employing the Head Injury Criterion (HIC). The HIC was experimentally measured using a Hybrid III 5th female dummy by impacting the head with a beer bottle. The bottle velocity was measured using a high speed camera. In the case of an empty bottle impact, the HIC value did not exceed 80 and in the case of an intact bottle impact, the HIC did not exceed 100 as the bottle was broken with increasing velocity. Considering the relation between the HIC and Abbreviated AIS code, it appears that the measured HIC is unlikely to cause skull fracture. The experiment was compared with analysis results using LS-Dyna software using the same Hybrid III 5th female dummy model and showed good agreement.
