Abstract
The Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) device is under construction at the National Fusion Research Center (NFRC). The mission of the KSTAR project is developing a steady-state capable advanced superconducting tokamak to establish the scientific and technological bases for an attractive fusion reactor. The KSTAR device consists of in-vessel components, a vacuum vessel, thermal shields, a toroidal field (TF) magnet system, a poloidal field (PF) magnet system, a cryostat, and ancillary systems. At the present time (August 2005), 15 TF coils, 2 pairs of PF coils, the vacuum vessel with thermal shields, and the cryostat for the KSTAR device have been completed in their fabrication. Six TF coils have been installed by using an assembly tooling system after installing the vacuum vessel, VV thermal shields, and lower PF coils. To verify the operational reliability of SC coils, several SC coils have been tested at cryogenic temperature in a large coil test facility in NFRC. The commissioning of the KSTAR device will be started by September 2007.
