Background : Despite the high cost of high-fidelity manikins, several studies showed no clear advantage compared with low-fidelity manikins in terms of knowledge or skill improvement. Methods : This study similarly used a non-equal control group post hoc design comparing two groups after advanced life support (ALS) training using high- and low-fidelity manikins for nursing students. The experimental group used a high-fidelity manikin, while the control group used a low-fidelity manikin to compare knowledge, skill performance, and teamwork after ALS training. Results : There was no statistically significant difference in knowledge (t=-.288, p=.774), skill performance (t=.528, p=.601), or teamwork (t=-1.786, p=.079) between the experimental and control groups. Conclusions : In ALS training, using high-fidelity manikins may be effective because it reduces trainees' anxiety and increases their confidence. However, this study did not find any significant advantages in ALS knowledge, skill performance, or teamwork in ALS training using high-fidelity compared to low-fidelity manikins. Therefore, the instructor’s role is important.
