Abstract
This study developed and applied an IWM modeling and analysis tool for predicting the NVH performances of IWM systems. Using the developed tool, the influences of various air-gap size and pole-slot (p-s) combinations on the NVH performance of an IWM were studied. Decreasing the air-gap resulted in a gradual increase in the motor sound power level. Furthermore, a comparison between the 64p-60s and 64p-72s IWM configurations showed that the 64p-72s IWM exhibited a superior NVH performance. Through vehicle testing, the 64p-72s IWM achieved a reduction in the overall noise of 9dBA, along with noise and vibration reductions of more than 20dB and 40dB for specific components (8th, 16th, and 64th harmonics), respectively, compared to the 64p-60s IWM. This innovative tool will empower engineers to conduct virtual NVH analyses, enabling early design optimization for quieter, more efficient, and innovative IWM systems.
