This study aimed to examine the relationship among individuals’ risk-taking tendencies, deterrence factors, and illegal gambling. Based on an understanding of illegal gambling and a theoretical review of risk-taking tendencies, legal awareness, and illegal gambling, this study investigated the causal effect relationships among these variables by conducting a path analysis. The results indicated that risk-taking tendencies negatively affected awareness of illegality and positively influenced participation in illegal gambling. Awareness of illegality, in turn, influenced the perception of the possibility of being punished, the severity of punishment, and participation in illegal gambling. Individuals with a stronger tendency to take risks may be more inclined to participate in illegal gambling than those with weaker tendencies. Additionally, deterring individuals with a strong risk-taking tendency from engaging in illegal gambling is possible by increasing their awareness of the illegality of their behavior. Furthermore, it is important to educate people about the negative effects of illegal gambling and gambling addiction, foster a healthier online gambling environment, implement corporate social responsibility in gambling practices, and address irrational gambling beliefs.
이 연구는 불법도박 근절을 통한 건전한 사행행위 정착 유도를 위해 개인적 특성인 위험감수 성향과 억제요인으로서의 법인식이 불법도박 참여에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 온라인 설문조사로 수집한 표본을 통한 경로모형분석 결과, 위험감수 성향은 억제요인 중 불법성 인식에만 유의한 영향을 주었고, 불법도박 참여에도 직접적인 영향을 미쳤다. 억제요인 중 불법성 인식은 처벌 확실성 인식과 처벌 엄격성 인식에 유의한 영향을 미쳤으며, 불법도박 참여에도 영향을 미쳤다. 처벌 확실성 인식과 처벌 엄격성 인식은 불법도박 참여에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 분석 결과를 바탕으로 위험감수 성향이 높을수록 범죄 행위인 불법도박을 더 많이 참여한다는 것이 확인되었다. 한편, 위험감수 성향이 높을수록 불법성 인식은 낮아져 위험감수 성향이 높은 사람일지라도 해당 행위가 불법임을 인지시켜준다면 불법도박 참여를 줄일 수 있음이 확인되었다. 불법도박의 폐해와 부작용에 대한 홍보 및 교육 실시, 비합리적 도박 신념의 변화 등이 불법도박 예방을 위해 요구된다.
