The author reports the results of a clinical investigation of NY-198, a new quinolone.Clinical evaluation was carried out in 13 patients with respiratory tract infection including 2 with tonsillitis, 1 with acute bronchitis, 6 with chronic bronchitis and 4 with bronchiectasis. Response was excellent in 1 and good in 10 of 13 patients (efficacy rate being 84.6%).As a side-effect, constipation with leucocytosis was observed in one case, but this adverse reaction disappeared within one week following discontinuance of administration.
