Abstract
We have developed ice chromatography, in which water ice is used as a liquid chromatographic stationary phase, as a novel separation tool. This method provides information on the molecular interaction occurring on the surface of ice and that on the physicochemical properties of the liquid phase that coexists with solid ice. Chiral separation based on ice chromatography can be designed so that chiral recognition occurs in the liquid phase retained in the ice stationary phase. We discuss not only the current problems and limitations of this method but also our attempts to overcome them.
