Abstract
In this study, an inner cathode type alkali metal thermoelectric conversion (AMTEC) cell is discussed. The performance of the inner cathode type cell can be improved significantly because of its heat transfer enhancement effect on the high temperature side of the cell. A new method of using graphite powder as a wick material was proposed and the maximum capillary force and flow resistance were experimentally examined. Using the obtained wick characteristics, a single tube cell was designed. The calculated results showed that the predicted output power of 1.1 W and conversion efficiency of 13% for a cylindrical cell with a diameter of 7 mm and a length of 150 mm under a temperature condition of 970K-500K.
