A new antibiotic cefmenoxime (CMX, SCE-1365) has been studied in the clinic, and the following results were obtained.1. Cefmenoxime was administered to 21 patients; 16 respiratory tract infections, 2 urinary tract infections, 1 peritonitis, 1 sepsis, and 1 fever unknown origin.2. Cefmenoxime was given intravenously at a daily dose of 1.0 to 4.0 g to the patients with nomal renal function, or at a daily dose of 1.0 g to the patients with renal insufficiency.3. Clinical response was excellent in 1 patient, good in 9, fair in 4, poor in 5, and undetermined in 2.4. No side effects caused by the drug were observed.
