Abstract
We measured pitching and rolling angle, vertical and yawing acceleration, bottom pressure and etc. on the DW 80,000 tons oil tanker which is running between Japan and Persian gulf. We also investigated the efficiency of the bulbous bow of the ship above mentioned on the sea. The main results obtained from these measurements and investigations are as follows: 1. The maximum double amplitude of the pressure fluctuation at the bottom entrance was 29m water head. 2. The whipping vibration was measured distinctly when the motion of the ship was not only much but also very small. 3. The mean service speed after modification to protruding bulbous bow increased by about 0.35kt in comparison with the non-protruding bulbous bow as expected.
