Twenty-two patients with surgical infections, including 9 cases of acute peritonitis, received intramuscular injections of Sisomicin, 50 to 150 mg daily, for from 3 to 13 days. Clinical results were “good” in 16, “fair” in 3, and “poor” in 3 patients; an over-all efficacy of 72.7%.Topical applications of the drug to two patients with wound infections were successful. Four patients received Sisomicin intramuscularly to prevent postoperative infections with good results.One patient with acute cholangitis and pancreatitis, whose BUN rose to 109 mg/dl, did not complete the treatment. The application of Sisomicin was stopped.
