Abstract
It has been known that monolayer h-BN grown on Ni is chemically bound to the Ni substrate due to orbital hybridization. However, we succeeded in growing quasi-free-standing monolayer h-BN on Ni. The h-BN/Ni system was extensively studied by XAS, XES, XPS, and PEEM. Especially, the first observation of takeoff angle dependence of XES from monolayer h-BN is presented.
