Abstract
PET/MR equipment that combined positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in a gantry has been developed and installed in Japan gradually. It is able to acquire both anatomical information and functional information of a subject in one exam. It required new developments of PET detector to insert it to a MR magnet that produce strong static magnetic field. To use it in clinical setting, some new idea has been required to make a subject comfortable and increase throughput of PET/MR exam. It will be very useful to use for not only in clinical exam but also in biosciences research because it is able to provide the opportunity to observe and quantitative measure a phenomenon by multiple method using both PET and MR simultaneously. Although high technique and knowledge might be required to use it sufficiently, this state-of-the-art equipment will contribute us to clarify bio functions of both human and diseases.
