Abstract
A 50-year-old woman was admitted to our division because of persistent hemoptysis for one month. A chest roentgenogram revealed infiltrative shadows in the left middle lung field. Bronchoscopic examinations revealed a smooth-surfaced tumor at the orifice of left B^4-bronchi and biopsy specimens revealed inflammatory bronchial polyp accompanied by inflammatory granulation tissue. The patient received a left upper lobectomy because of the reappearance and continuation of massive hemoptysis even after conservative therapy. Although this case was clinically diagnosed as idiopathic inflammatory bronchial polyp, the pathological etiology of bronchial polyp remains uncertain. Bronchial polyp, though rare in its incidence, should be clearly distinguished from malignacies. This case was considered to be bronchoscopically interesting in terms of the bronchoscopic findings.
