Abstract
[Purpose] Construction and promotion of folate awareness project through public-private partnerships to improve outcomes during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum in Japan. [Method] The status of folic acid supplement intake during pregnancy was investigated in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Pref., Japan. The Health Division of Hiratsuka City and the DHC Corporation discussed measures to resolve issues of maternal and child health through public-private partnerships. [Results] The survey showed that the utilization rate of folic acid supplements during pregnancy was 28.3%. Therefore, on October 1, 2018, the Health Division launched the Hiratsuka Folate Project to promote a proper intake of folate and use of folic acid supplements for maternal and child health. [Discussion and Conclusion] The latest research shows that the intake of folic acid supplements improves pregnancy and childbirth outcomes. The project of public-private partnerships will be promoted as preconception care.
