Abstract
The aim of this basic study is to investigate the turbulent kinetic energy budget and the mass transport in the forest. We used a living tree as a test specimen in the wind tunnel experiment. Measurements of the velocity components and the pressure fluctuation were conducted by using the combined probe of the X-type hot-wire and the static pressure probe. The result showed that in the center of the near wake region behind the living tree, the turbulent kinetic energy in tree's height direction was transported from top part of tree's crown. As the flow goes downstream, the kinetic energy was dissipated at the lower part of the tree. Turbulent kinetic energy was produced by the Reynolds shear stress and the velocity gradient at the upper part of the living tree.
