Abstract
Recent reports in Japan have described a conspicuous number of cases with oral chemical burns caused by a calcium oxide desiccant among elderly patients with dementia. Since the number of people with dementia is increasing, such cases may increase in future. Prevention is most important, but immediate and appropriate treatment is important in case of occurrence. There seems to be a need for improving desiccant bags.
