Abstract
Recently, superselective intra-arterial chemo-radiotherapy has been performed for advanced squamous cell carcinoma in the maxillary sinus in order to improve local control and organ preservation such as the orbit or palate. However, maxillary sinus carcinomas have various types of histopathological diagnosis, and an operation including extended resection is performed for most cases, except squamous cell carcinoma. We report a case of inflammatory fibrosarcoma (IFS) of the maxillary sinus. It is generally difficult to diagnose IFS since its occurrence in the head and neck region is rare. Though we performed extended resection and postoperative radiation, careful long-term observation is necessary since the recurrence rate is high.
