Abstract
A 68-year-old man visited another hospital because of periumbilical pain. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a target sign at the transverse colon. The patient was transferred to our hospital. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography findings indicated intussusception of the transverse colon without ischemia or necrosis. We performed colonoscopy and an enema study. The enema study revealed a filling defect like a crabʼs claw, and intussusception was diagnosed. Since CT revealed remarkable thickening of the wall of the transverse colon and the enema study suggested malignancy, emergency operation was performed on the same day. At laparotomy, the pressure reduction method was attempted and was easily performed. On closer observation, however, worms that appeared to be Anisakis worms, were found on the surface of the mucosa at the site of formation of the inflammatory tumor. The tumor on the transverse colon was resected. Histopathological examination of the resected specimen confirmed the diagnosis of anisakiasis.
