Abstract
We report a case of giant gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) of the stomach with intraperitoneal bleeding. A 61-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with a chief complaint of acute abdominal pain. Abdominal CT showed a giant tumor below the stomach and massive fluid collection in the abdominal cavity. Emergent laparotomy was performed. The tumor arose from the stomach wall. From the immunostaining study of the specimen it was concluded that the patient had gastrointestinal stromal tumor arising from stomach. Generally it is difficult to diagnose the rupture of the GIST before the operation. But from the past reports, three signs may be useful to diagnose it properly. Those signs are (1) tumor of unknown origin, (2) acute abdominal pain and (3) abdominal fluid collection.
