The authors launched the NicoNicoGakkai Beta in November 2011 as a community for "user participatory research", and after the end of the planned five years period of activity, we decided to shift to the next stage. In the meantime, about 650,000 people watched our large-scale symposiums on the Internet in total of nine times, bringing about new developments in science and technology communication. It is noteworthy that NicoNicoGakkai Beta becomes a place which creates "co-creative innovation". The methodology is to organize "co-creative events" such as "unconference" and "hackathon" and has successfully created new ideas by releasing participants from the everyday mindset. The achievements of NicoNicoGakkai Beta as above were taken up as "Promoting co-creative STI" in "The 5th Science and Technology Basic Plan". The authors wish to actively support co-creative STI with this pioneering case of NicoNicoGakkai Beta.
