Abstract
1) Cephradine was administered in 115 cases of various urinary tract infections diagnozed byUrological Departments of Kyushu Unversity and other allied hospitals. As 12 cases dropped out, examinations were possible in 18 cases of male and 85 cases of female, totalling 103 cases.2) Among the group administered 1 g daily, the results obtained were excellent in 46 cases, good in 11 cases and poor in 2 cases out of 59 cases, effective ratio being 96.6%. Among the group administered 2 g daily, the results were excellent in 33 cases, good in 8 cases and poor in 3 cases out of 44 cases, effective ratio being 93.1%.3) Among 81 cases of simple urinary tract infection, effective ratio of 100% was obtained in both 1 g group (51 cases) and 2 g group (30 cases). Among 22 cases of complicated urinary tract infection, no difference was noticed between 1 g group (8 cases) and 2 g group (14 cases), effective ratio being 75.0% and 78.5% respectively.4) The largest number of cases was acute simple cystitis, being divided into 1 g group (49 cases) and 2 g group (23 cases). The administration was continued for 3-7 days (4.9 days on an average), and effective ratio of 100% was obtained in both groups.5) Gastric malaise was observed in 1 case of 1 g group and in 5 cases of 2 g group, including dropped out case. Leukopenia was recognized in 1 child of 1 g group, and the patient was released from this side effect by receiving an adrenal cortical hormone.6) Cephradine was proved to be excellent for urinary tract infection, especially that of acute and simple. In these cases, the dosage of 1 g daily for less than 5 days seems to be sufficient in consideration of side effect with the drug.
