Abstract
Two cases of sensorineural hearing loss associated with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease are reported.A 57-year-old man first noticed eye symptoms such as blurred vision and visual disturbance in both eyes. He was diagnosed as Harada's disease by ophthalmologic and immunological examinations. The patient noticed sudden onset of hearingimpairment in the right ear. The audiogram demonstrated a moderate sensorineural hearing loss in the right ear. SISI test showed 100% in 500 and 90% in 4, 000 Hz of the affected ear, suggesting that sensorineural hearing loss waspossibly caused by an inner ear damage. He was treated with systemic and/or oral administrationof steroid hormone, prostaglandin, vita minB12 and ATP. His hearing gradually improvedto the level of the left ear.A 42-year-old woman complained of fullnessof the left ear and blurred vision in both eyes. The audiogram demonstrated sensorineural hearingloss in low frequencies, with positive recruitmentphenomenon. Ophthalmologist diagnosedher Harada's disease by ophthalmologic and immunological examinations. The patient was treated with systemic and/or oral administrationof steroid hormone, vitamin B12 and ATP. Herhearing improved gradually in several months. The authors thought that sensorineural hearingloss was possibly caused by an autoimmune reactionin the inner ear of Harada's disease.
