Abstract
Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is a pancreatic inflammatory disease caused by an autoimmune mechanism. AIP is known to respond dramatically to corticosteroid treatment, however, relapses commonly occur. Similar to steroid re-treatment, immunomodulators and rituximab are recently reported to be effective steroid-sparing treatment options in patients with relapsed or steroid-resistant AIP. In the management of AIP, the risk of relapse should always be considered, in addition to the appropriate treatment strategy focusing on the long-term prognosis.
