Abstract
The effect of particle size on the mechanical properties in the “incompatible polymer blend” was investigated. For this purpose, crosslinked poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) particles having the different size in the range from 0.4 to 20 μm were prepared by a seeded emulsion polymerization or dispersion polymerization. The obtained emulsion particles are powdered by a freeze dry method and dispersed into poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) matrix by a melt blending. It was found that the yield stress was independent of the particle size, whereas the elongation at break was decreased with an increase in the particle size.
