Abstract
The enzymatic activities of 527 isolates from periodontal pockets with advancing periodontitis were detected by API ZYM and isolates with these activities were identified. Many isolates, most of them Bacteroides, Actinomyces, Peptostreptococcus and Streptococcus, produced phosphoamidase (61.9% of all isolates), phosphatase acid (56.5%), leucine arylamidase (53.3%) and phosphatase alkaline (50.9%). N-acetyl-β-glucosaminidase and trypsin were produced mainly by B. gingivalis. Chymotrypsin was produced by Bacteroides, Streptococcus and Peptostreptococcus.Black-pigmented Bacteroides especially B. gingivalis produced periodontal disease-associated enzyme and Actinomyces, Peptostreptococcus and Streptococcus also did.
