Abstract
With the growing interest in the impact of urban design on pedestrian behavior, the epidemic of COVID-19 is considered to have brought about some transformation in the fundamental norms of pedestrian behavior. As the causal structure between spatial transformation and behavioral change becomes increasingly complex, conventional evaluation methods that only present correlations are no longer adequate. In this study, we introduced a causal inferential approach to spatial behavior analysis by devising a sampling method for route data, and found that the redevelopment of Shibuya, which is undergoing a large-scale urban space transformation, has caused a drastic decrease in opportunities of migratory behavior, a decline in time consumption, and a loss of spatio-temporal activity patterns.
