Abstract
We are considering adsorption treatment using powdered activated carbon as a low-cost treatment method for PFASs contained in environmental water, and we believe that PFASs adsorbed on powdered activated carbon must eventually be decomposed appropriately and reliably. Therefore, the authors have been developing a new decomposition treatment technology for PFASs that conforms to the "Technical Considerations for the Treatment of Wastes Containing PFOS and PFOA" and reduces the environmental impact, using superheated steam at temperatures exceeding 1100°C, which is generated by burning hydrogen. In this report, we describe the results of treatment experiments of "PFASs adsorption powdered activated carbon slurry" prepared by adding powdered activated carbon to diluted Aqueous film forming foam solution containing PFOS, etc., using a newly fabricated hydrogen combustion type high-temperature superheated steam decomposition treatment test apparatus.
