Abstract
The peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) is known to cause fewer fatal complications and catheter-associated infections, however potential complications include thrombosis, occlusion, catheter dislodgment and phlebitis. While it has been reported that sutureless stabilization reduces such complications, the effect of SorbaView® SHIELDbased sutureless stabilization has not been reported. We performed statistical analyses comparing the incidence of catheter-associated complications on two cohorts : the Suture group (n=94, from January to September, 2011) and the Sorba group (n=327, from October, 2011 to March, 2013). Results showed that the Sorba group had delayed onset of occlusion compared with the Suture group. However, there were no significant differences for other complications. The SorbaView® SHIELD may allow catheters to remain in place for a longer time period than other stabilization methods.
