Abstract
Glass foamed lightweight geomaterials are recycled lightweight materials made from waste glass. When using lightweight glass foam as a geomaterial in cold regions, it is necessary to confirm its resistance to freezing and freezing and thawing, but there are very few cases in which these properties have been investigated. This study examined the applicability of glass foamed lightweight materials to cold region by conducting freezing tests and heat transfer analysis. The lightweight geomaterial was a non-freezing material and of good quality with no decrease in CBR value after freezing and thawing. It was also confirmed that there were many pores within the particles, and the effect of this was to show that the thermal properties of the material were superior to those of ordinary crushed stone. Furthermore, the effect of using lightweight geomaterials for control frost heave layer and subbase course on frost penetration depth was clarified by heat transfer analysis.
