Abstract
In general, the Isbash formula has been employed to a mass calculation method for armor blocks of the mound against tsunami-induced current. However an analysis indicates that the required mass extremely increases as tsunami flow velocity becomes higher because the required mass is proportional to the flow velocity to the 6th power. Kato H, et al. propose adoption of flow velocity to the 3rd power equation to which virtual height Δ has been introduced based on the stability experiment of armor blocks using stationary flow. To clarify the required mass for stability of armor blocks against a tsunami, we conducted a hydraulic model experiment in which the slope gradient of the mound, and the size, aspect ratio and thickness of armor blocks were modified based on the hydraulic experiment using stationary flow. Then, we compare the Isbash formula to the mass calculation method proposed by Kato H, et al., and discuss the applicability of mass calculation method.
